136Cs ROOT analysis

Neutron time-of-flight analysis for a caesium-136 experiment at TUNL.

Research ROOT C++

Source on GitHub

ROOT macros developed to analyse neutron time-of-flight spectra from experiments at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory on the decay of caesium-136.

What it does

The code builds time-of-flight histograms per detector cluster and angle, includes a table of per-channel timing offsets for aligning the detectors against the gamma-ray peak, fits a polynomial background together with the peaks, and fits single and triple Gaussian peaks anchored to the known energies of caesium-136 states from the literature.

No angular dependence was seen in the neutron spectrum, supporting the hypothesis of compound nuclear decay over selective transition rules, and the fits indicated several previously unreported or unresolved states, suggesting the region above 2.6 MeV merits further study.

How it treats your data

Research code; no personal data involved.

Where it stands

Public on GitHub as a record of the analysis.

This analysis was developed at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory under the mentorship of Dr. Daniels, with data courtesy of the TUNL collaboration. Ocean Dweller Media publishes it here as a record of that work. Questions and bug reports: support@human-memory.ai.
