PlantAdvocate is a houseplant and garden care app. You describe your growing areas, add your plants, log watering and feeding, and get advice tailored to the species and to that plant's own history.

What it does

For the roughly 1,000 researched species, every care value is a claim cited to a horticultural authority such as an extension service or a botanical garden, resolved into one catalog record: light, how dry the soil should get, humidity and temperature ranges, soil type, toxicity. Values borrowed from the genus, and older entries not yet cited, are labelled as such.

Everyday care advice is built by fixed rules from those cited facts and the plant's own care log, with no outside AI service writing it. Photo identification runs on the phone, on iPhones with Apple Intelligence, and only offers species already in the catalog, as suggestions you confirm. Model-backed photo check-ups and symptom reading are built but switched off.

On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, the gnome you meet throughout the app restyles the advice in a warmer voice on the device. Toxicity warnings are never restyled, and a drift guard shows the plain answer instead if the restyle adds a number or a care action the facts did not contain.

Plant-care misinformation is exactly what an ungrounded model produces confidently and wrong, so the whole app is built as a study in making AI features that give reliable answers rather than plausible ones.

How it treats your data

Your care log is yours and can be deleted in the app at any time. Photos used to identify a plant are read on the phone and never uploaded.

Where it stands

Free. The App Store submission is in progress, and the source repository is public on GitHub.
