A one-person software studio
Software that keeps your data on your device where it can, and says plainly where it cannot.
Ocean Dweller Media makes small, careful apps for the iPhone and the web, has desktop apps in development, and publishes some of its tools and research code in the open. Each one starts from the same idea: the record of your life belongs to you, it should stay where you can read it, and anything that leaves your device should be written down.
How the work is done
-
Local first
Human Memory keeps its vault on your phone and exports it as plain Markdown and JSON. Exposure Radar keeps your places and vitals on your iPhone. No account where none is needed.
-
Every egress listed
No app here says “nothing leaves your device”. Each privacy policy lists what does leave, who receives it and why.
-
Sources, not guesses
In PlantAdvocate, any model that is switched on is handed cited care facts and told to answer only from them. Human Memory ranks its evidence before it places you anywhere, and says which rank it used.
Projects
Everything the studio is working on, from apps on the App Store to research code. Each has its own page here, and each app has a site of its own.
Apps

Human Memory
On the App StoreA private record of your own life, built on your iPhone from what you already have.
Human Memory reads what is already on your iPhone, such as photos, contacts, calendar entries and workouts, plus archives you export yourself, such as Google Takeout, and builds a private map, timeline and people record in an encrypted vault on the device.

Bridge for Loved Ones
On the App StoreA calmer way to stop having the same argument with someone you love.
Bridge is a communication tool for people who love each other: a partner, a parent, a sibling or a friend. You each write privately, Bridge reads it back to you in one sentence, and then it drafts a message in your name that keeps what you meant and drops the parts that only land as blame.

Exposure Radar
On TestFlightKnow how much contagious illness you are around, and how ready your body is.
Exposure Radar estimates your exposure to COVID-19, flu, RSV and measles from the places you go, how crowded they are and what CDC wastewater data shows is spreading, and compares your Apple Health vitals with your own baseline.
